Transderm Scop Side Effects

Serious side effects may occur with Transderm Scop, so contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop something that does not seem right. Some of the serious reactions that may occur include hallucinations, confusion, or rambling speech. In addition, clinical studies have shown that dry mouth, drowsiness, and dizziness are some of the most commonly reported problems with this drug.

An Introduction to Transderm Scop Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Transderm Scop® (scopolamine patch) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects With Transderm Scop

Transderm Scop has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects were carefully documented.
When used to prevent motion sickness, the most common Transderm Scop side effects included:
  • Dry mouth -- in about 66 percent of people
  • Drowsiness -- about 16 percent
  • Temporary blurred vision and pupil dilation -- percentages not reported.
When used for preventing nausea and vomiting due to surgery and/or anesthesia, the most common side effects included:
  • Dry mouth -- in up to 29 percent of people
  • Dizziness -- up to 12 percent.
