There are several factors that may affect your dosage of mycophenolate mofetil, including your weight, your age, and other medications you are taking. This medicine comes as capsules, tablets, an oral liquid suspension, and an intravenous injection. It is usually taken twice a day. The intravenous injections should only be used as long as oral medicines are not tolerated, for up to 14 days.
An Introduction to Your Dosage of Mycophenolate MofetilThe mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept®) dosage your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- The reason you are taking the medicine
- Your height and weight (in children)
- Your age
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Mycophenolate Mofetil Dosing for Kidney TransplantThe usual recommended dosage of mycophenolate mofetil for preventing transplant rejection after a kidney transplant in adults is 1 gram twice daily. If given by intravenous (IV) injection, the dose will be administered slowly over at least two hours.
The usual dosage in children (3 months to 18 years of age) is based on the child's body surface area, which is normally calculated using height and weight. The maximum recommended dose in children is 2 grams per day (1 gram twice a day).
