Fexofenadine (Allegra®) is a medication often used for treating seasonal allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or water eyes. It is available without a prescription and comes in several different forms and strengths, including:
30 mg tablets
60 mg tablets
180 mg tablets
30 mg ODT (orally disintegrating) tablets
Oral suspension, which contains 30 mg of medication per 5 mL or per teaspoonful.
The recommended fexofenadine dosage for adults and children 12 years old and over is 60 mg twice a day or 180 mg once a day. For children ages 6 to 11, the recommended dose is 30 mg twice a day. Children in this age group may need to take the orally disintegrating form of the 30 mg fexofenadine tablets.
