Drugs Home > Drug Interactions With Dinoprostone

Although dinoprostone (Cervidil®, Prepidil®, Prostin E2®) is unlikely to interact with most other drugs, it may react with oxytocin (Pitocin®). Oxytocin is used to stimulate labor by causing contractions of the uterus. Because dinoprostone also causes uterine contractions, it may increase the effects of oxytocin.

To minimize the risk for this interaction, if oxytocin is to be used, it should be given at least 30 minutes after dinoprostone vaginal insert is removed and at least 6 to 12 hours after dinoprostone vaginal gel is last administered. Dinoprostone vaginal suppository should not be used in combination with other medications that stimulate contractions of the uterus, including oxytocin.

It is possible that not all drug interactions with dinoprostone were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about specific interactions that may apply to you.
