Zolpidem Sublingual Tablet Dosage

Zolpidem sublingual tablets dissolve under the tongue and can be used once a night. The recommended dosage of zolpidem sublingual tablets will vary, depending primarily on age, sex, and other medical conditions you may have. This sleep medicine may work more quickly if it is not taken with food.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Zolpidem Sublingual Tablets

The dose of zolpidem sublingual tablets (Edluar®, Intermezzo®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your age
  • The particular product (Intermezzo or Edluar)
  • Your sex (women need a lower dose, compared to men)
  • Other medical conditions you may have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Intermezzo Dosing Guidelines for Insomnia

Intermezzo is the version of zolpidem sublingual tablets that is approved for middle-of-the-night use. For most people, the standard recommended Intermezzo dosage of this drug for middle-of-the-night awakenings is 3.5 mg for men and 1.75 mg for women, taken no more than once per night. The medication lasts longer in women's bodies, which is why a lower amount is recommended.

In addition, people who are over the age of 65 (men or women), people with liver disease, and people taking other medications that cause drowsiness (see Drug Interactions With Zolpidem Sublingual Tablet) should be started with a dosage of 1.75 mg no more than once a night.

Edluar Dose for Insomnia

Edluar is the version of zolpidem sublingual tablets that is approved for bedtime use. For women, the standard recommended dosage of Edluar is 5 mg at bedtime. For men, the recommended dosage is 5 to 10 mg at bedtime.

For elderly people or those with liver disease, the recommended amount is Edluar 5 mg immediately before bedtime.
