This generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen is a tricyclic birth control pill, as it contains three phases of hormones. It is important to take one pill a day, at the same time each day.
What Is Tri-Linyah?Tri-Linyah® (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill (technically known as an oral contraceptive). It is a generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen®.
In addition to its use for birth control, Tri-Linyah is approved to treat acne. It is also classified as a tricyclic birth control pill, due to the varying levels of hormones in each pill cycle, and a combined birth control pill because it contains both an estrogen and a progestin.

Are There Side Effects?Just like any medicine, Tri-Linyah may cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes it will experience problems. In fact, most women tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Common side effects of Tri-Linyah include but are not limited to:
- Breast tenderness
- Breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods
- Nausea or vomiting
