Precautions to Nebulized Tobramycin

Tobramycin inhalation solution (Bethkis®, Tobi®) is a medicine prescribed to treat certain bacterial infections in those who have cystic fibrosis. It comes as a liquid that is used in a nebulizer to form a fine mist that is inhaled twice daily. Although nebulized tobramycin inhalation solution can be effective for many people, there are some precautions to be aware of before starting treatment.

For example, people who have a disorder that affects their muscles, those who have hearing problems, and people with certain allergies may not be able to safely use tobramycin inhalation solution. Also, this medication can cause complications for some people, such as kidney damage, hearing loss, and drug interactions. Before starting treatment with this medication, talk to your healthcare provider about your medical history and let him or her know about all medications, vitamins, and supplements you are taking.
