What Is Tinzaparin Used For?

Can Children Use It?

Tinzaparin is not approved for use in children. This does not mean that children absolutely cannot use this drug; it just means that tinzaparin (like most medications) has not been adequately studied in this age group. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks of using tinzaparin in children.
 

Is Tinzaparin Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the conditions discussed in this article. Some possible "off-label" tinzaparin uses include:
 
  • "Bridge therapy" in people who must temporarily stop taking warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
  • Preventing blood clots
  • Managing clotting disorders in pregnant women or preventing recurring pregnancy loss (see Innohep and Pregnancy).
