Drug Interactions With Temozolomide

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Temozolomide

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when temozolomide is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Amphotericin B
Combining amphotericin B with other anti-cancer medicines may increase the risk for amphotericin B side effects, such as kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and breathing problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these medicines together.
Biologic and Immunologic Medications
Taking temozolomide in combination with biologic and immunologic medications that suppress the immune system could increase your risk for potentially serious side effects, including low blood cell counts and infections. Temozolomide should not be used in combination with some of these biologics or immunologics, while other combinations can be used together with careful monitoring. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you are taking biologic or immunologic medicines.
Taking clozapine and temozolomide together may increase the risk for dangerously low white blood cell counts, which could make you susceptible to potentially serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. However, do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Echinacea may decrease the effectiveness of temozolomide. Do not take echinacea during temozolomide treatment without first speaking with your healthcare provider.
Live Vaccinations
In general, people using temozolomide should not receive live vaccines. Live vaccines are vaccines that contain live viruses or bacteria. Because you are more prone to infections during temozolomide treatment, you could become infected with the virus or bacteria used to make the vaccine. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people taking temozolomide. Talk to your healthcare provider before getting a vaccination during temozolomide treatment.
