If your thyroid levels are higher than normal, your healthcare provider may recommend Tapazole® (methimazole), an antithyroid medication. This medicine comes in the form of a tablet that is typically taken three times a day. It comes in two strengths and is available in brand-name and generic forms.
 
Side effects can occur with Tapazole, including vomiting, hair loss, and muscle pain. However, most people tolerate the drug well, and serious reactions are not as common.
