This medicine comes in the form of a tablet and is available in two strengths. It is typically taken three times a day. Although most people tolerate the drug well, side effects (such as hair loss, headache, and muscle pain) may occur.

What Is Tapazole?

Who Makes Tapazole?

Brand-name Tapazole tablets are made by AAI Pharma for King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Generic versions are made by various manufacturers.

How Does It Work?

Tapazole works by inhibiting the production of hormones in the thyroid. The medication prevents the oxidation of iodine, an important step in the production of thyroid hormones. It does not affect the thyroid hormones that are already circulating in the bloodstream.
