Talwin for Pain

Available by prescription only, Talwin® (pentazocine lactate) is a medicine approved to treat moderate-to-severe pain. It is also approved for use before surgery and in combination with anesthesia. Talwin comes as a liquid that is injected into a vein, muscle, or just under the skin. When used for controlling pain, the drug is usually injected every three to four hours.
Although most people tolerate Talwin well, it is not suitable for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and nonprescription medicines), as well as any other medical conditions you may have. Because Talwin is a commonly abused drug, there are strict laws regarding its sale and use.
