Normal Dosage for Talwin

If you have moderate-to-severe pain, your healthcare provider may recommend Talwin® (pentazocine lactate). This prescription medicine is taken every three to four hours, and is approved for use in adults and, in some cases, for children. Your specific dosage, however, will depend on how you respond to the medication, your age and weight, and various other factors.

The normal recommended dosage for Talwin in most adults is 30 mg every three to four hours. The medication can be given as an injection into a vein, a muscle, or beneath the skin. However, it should only be given as an SC injection if absolutely necessary, as these injections can cause severe skin damage.
