Tacrolimus ointment (
Protopic®) is a skin medication used to treat severe cases of
atopic dermatitis (eczema) that has not responded to other treatments or to treat cases in which these other options cannot be used. It is generally applied to the affected areas of the skin twice a day.
Tacrolimus ointment comes in the following strengths:
- Tacrolimus ointment 0.03%
- Tacrolimus ointment 0.1%.
The medicine can be used in children as young as two years old -- they are usually prescribed the lower strength.
