Simvastatin (Zocor®), a prescription medication, is used for treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. By lowering LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels, it can also help reduce the risk of problems related to high cholesterol, such as heart disease or a heart attack. Simvastatin, which is available in brand-name and generic form, comes in a tablet that is taken once a day. The most common side effects thought to be related to this medicine include stomach pain, headache, and constipation.
