For people with high cholesterol or high triglycerides, simvastatin (Zocor®) may be beneficial. This medication has been shown to increase HDL cholesterol ("good cholesterol') and decrease LDL cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"), total cholesterol, and triglycerides. Simvastatin comes in tablet form and is generally taken once daily in the evening. Before your healthcare provider prescribes this drug, make sure he or she is aware if you are pregnant, drink alcohol frequently, or have a history of a heart attack or stroke.
