The prescription medicine simvastatin (Zocor®) is approved for treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is a type of statin that can help increase HDL cholesterol ("good cholesterol") and decrease LDL cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"), total cholesterol, and triglycerides by blocking a particular enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body.
