Simvastatin (Zocor®), a statin medication, is approved for the treatment of high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It can also be used to prevent heart or blood vessel disease (commonly known as cardiovascular disease). Simvastatin works by blocking the effects of a particular enzyme, which can help reduce cholesterol production and decrease triglyceride levels. You should talk to your healthcare provider before using simvastatin tablets if you are pregnant, have diabetes, or have any allergies.
