Simvastatin (Zocor®) is a medicine approved for preventing cardiovascular disease and treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is available by prescription only and comes in the form of a tablet that is generally taken once a day. Studies have shown simvastatin tablets to be effective in increasing "good cholesterol" and decreasing "bad cholesterol," total cholesterol, and triglycerides. While most people tolerate the medication well, potential side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, and headaches.
