Simvastatin (

Zocor^®), a prescription medication, is used for the treatment of high cholesterol in both adults and children. It is also licensed to treat high triglycerides and to prevent cardiovascular disease.

The medicine comes in tablet form. It is typically recommended to take simvastatin tabs once a day, in the evening. Your healthcare provider will determine an appropriate dosage for you based on several factors, including your age and cholesterol goals.

Simvastatin works by blocking a particular enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body. Clinical studies show that people who took this medicine were able to increase their HDL cholesterol ("good cholesterol"), while decreasing their LDL cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"), total cholesterol, and triglycerides.
