Simvastatin Safety

Simvastatin (Zocor®) is a prescription medicine licensed for the treatment of high cholesterol and high triglycerides.

There are many simvastatin safety warnings and precautions to be aware of before starting treatment. For example,. you should consult your healthcare provider before taking this drug if you have diabetes, are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, or drink alcohol frequently.

It is important to avoid consuming grapefruit products (including juice) while taking simvastatin. These products can increase the drug levels in your blood, which can increase your risk of developing serious muscle problems.

Other side effects that may occur with simvastatin include abdominal pain (stomach pain), headache, a general feeling of weakness, and constipation. You should notify your healthcare provider immediately if you develop any side effects or if something "just does not seem right."
