Simvastatin 10 mg Tablets

Simvastatin (Zocor®) is a prescription drug approved to treat high cholesterol and high triglycerides. By decreasing these levels, you can also reduce your risk of developing problems related to high cholesterol, such as heart disease or a heart attack.

The medication comes in tablet form and is available in a variety of strengths, including:

For most people with high cholesterol, the recommended starting simvastatin dosage is 20 mg to 40 mg once daily. People with severe kidney disease, who are over the age of 65, or who are taking certain other medications may need to start with a lower dose (such as 5 mg daily).

Children ages 10 to 17 with high cholesterol usually start with the 10 mg tablets (one tablet, once daily). If needed, your child's healthcare provider can increase this dosage up to a maximum of 40 mg daily.
