Simvastatin (Zocor®) is a medication commonly used for treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is also approved for the prevention of heart or blood vessel disease. The drug is available by prescription only and comes in the form of a tablet that is generally taken once a day. In clinical studies, simvastatin was shown to increase HDL cholesterol ("good cholesterol") and decrease LDL cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"), total cholesterol, and triglycerides.
