Simvastatin (Zocor^®) is a prescription medication used for treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is also approved to prevent cardiovascular disease. By blocking a particular enzyme in the body, the drug can cause the liver to make less cholesterol, increase "good cholesterol," reduce "bad cholesterol," and decrease triglycerides. Simvastatin comes in tablet form and is generally taken once a day. Potential side effects of the medication include abdominal pain, constipation, muscle pain, and headache.
