If you have high cholesterol or high triglycerides, your healthcare provider may prescribe simvastatin (Zocor®). This medication, which belongs to a class of drugs called statins, works by blocking HMG-CoA reductase (an enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body). While most people tolerate simvastatin well, side effects are possible. Some of the most commonly reported side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, headache, and muscle pain.
