How to Take Simvastatin

Simvastatin (Zocor®) is a medication often prescribed for the treatment of high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is also approved to prevent cardiovascular disease.

You should find out from your healthcare provider exactly how to take simvastatin. Before making a dosage recommendation, he or she will consider several factors. Some of these factors may include your age, your cholesterol goal, and other medications you are taking.

The recommended starting simvastatin dosage for most adults is 20 mg to 40 mg once a day, taken at night. People who are over the age of 65, have severe kidney disease, or are taking cyclosporine may need to start with a lower dose (such as 5 mg daily).
