Sandimmune Warnings and Precautions

People with kidney problems, diabetes, any type of cancer, or other medical conditions may need to take certain precautions with Sandimmune. For example, they may need to be monitored more carefully, and they may need to avoid or postpone certain vaccinations. Warnings with Sandimmune also apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking Sandimmune® (cyclosporine) if you have:
 
  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Liver disease, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver failure
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Diabetes
  • Low cholesterol
  • Lymphoma, skin cancer, or any other type of cancer
  • An infection of any kind
  • Plans to receive a vaccine
  • Been told you have low levels of magnesium in your blood
  • Ever been treated with ultraviolet light therapy, coal tar, radiation therapy, or medications that suppress the immune system
  • Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
     
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
     
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
