Rosuvastatin calcium (Crestor®) is a prescription medication approved to treat several conditions related to heart disease. Specifically, this medication can treat high cholesterol and high triglycerides, and slow the progression of atherosclerosis. Rosuvastatin is a form of statin medication that works by blocking an enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body. Side effects may include constipation, nausea, and body weakness. In order for the medication to work properly, you must take it as prescribed. The drug comes in tablet form and is typically taken once a day.
