Drug Interactions With Rosuvastatin

Fibrates
Taking a fibrate and rosuvastatin at the same time may increase the level of rosuvastatin in your blood. This can increase your risk of rosuvastatin side effects, including serious muscle problems, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (see Crestor and Muscle Pain). In general, rosuvastatin should not be taken with a fibrate. However, if your healthcare provider recommends taking these medications together, the maximum recommended dose of rosuvastatin is lower than usual (10 mg per day).

Ketoconazole
Theoretically, rosuvastatin may decrease the level of steroid hormones in the body. Since ketoconazole can also lower these hormone levels, taking these medications together may increase your risk of related problems. Talk to your healthcare provider before combining ketoconazole with rosuvastatin.

Niacin
Combining niacin with rosuvastatin may increase the risk of serious muscle problems, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (see Crestor and Muscle Pain). Do not combine these medications without your healthcare provider's approval.

Other Statins
Rosuvastatin is a statin medication. Combining it with other statin medications may increase the risk of serious muscle problems, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (see Crestor and Muscle Pain). In general, you should not use more than one statin at the same time.
