Reclast While Breastfeeding: An Overview
At this time, it is unknown if
Reclast™ (
zoledronic acid) passes through breast milk in humans. The manufacturer of the drug does not recommend that women breastfeed while taking it. If you are breastfeeding or are thinking about breastfeeding, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Reclast.
Reclast and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?
No studies have been done to see if Reclast passes through breast milk in women. Like all bisphosphonate medications, Reclast binds to bone and is released slowly over time. It is not known how the drug might affect growing bones (such as those of young infants). Also, it is not known how long to wait after taking Reclast (which is taken as just a single dose) before it is safe to breastfeed.
