Rabeprazole

Rabeprazole (Aciphex) is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid in your stomach. It is used to improve heartburn and other gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms, allow damage to the esophagus to heal, and give the stomach or intestines time to heal, among other things. It is important for people to talk to their healthcare provider prior to taking rabeprazole if they have liver disease or liver failure, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any allergies.

Rabeprazole medicine is manufactured by Eisai Co. and marketed by Janssen Pharmaceutical, Inc.
 

Rabeprazole: Uses

Rabeprazole is licensed to treat a number of conditions, which include:
 
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Erosive esophagitis
  • Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections
  • Pathological hypersecretory conditions (such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
  • Duodenal ulcers.
 

How Does Rabeprazole Work?

Rabeprazole is part of a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which decrease the amount of acid in your stomach by blocking the acid production sites.
 

Rabeprazole: Effects

Rabeprazole medicine reduces the amount of acid in your stomach, which will:
 
  • Improve heartburn and other GERD symptoms
  • Allow damage to the esophagus to heal
  • Give the stomach or intestines time to heal.
