Precautions and Warnings of Rabeprazole

There are several rabeprazole precautions and warnings to be aware of. For example, this drug can interact with certain medications. Also, if you have severe liver disease, your healthcare provider may use caution when treating you with rabeprazole. Other rabeprazole precautions and warnings include talking to your doctor (prior to taking this drug) if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Rabeprazole: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Prior to taking rabeprazole (Aciphex®), you should tell your healthcare provider if you have:
 
  • Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, or hepatitis
  • Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.
  •  
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
  •  
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 

Some Precautions and Warnings of Rabeprazole

Some precautions and warnings to be aware of with rabeprazole include:
 
  • Rabeprazole can interact with certain medications (see Drug Interactions With Rabeprazole).
  •  
  • Rabeprazole is considered a pregnancy Category B medication, meaning that it is probably safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are currently unknown (see Aciphex and Pregnancy).
  •  
  • If you have severe liver disease, your healthcare provider may use caution when treating you with rabeprazole.
  •  
  • At this time, it is unknown if rabeprazole passes through breast milk in humans (see Aciphex and Breastfeeding).
