Questran Uses (Cont.)

Questran Uses: One Aspect of Treatment

Treatment for lowering cholesterol typically begins with lifestyle modifications. These include a diet low in cholesterol (see Low Cholesterol Diet) and saturated fats, limited alcohol use, weight loss, and exercise. If lifestyle changes alone do not lower cholesterol levels enough, certain medications, such as Questran, may be necessary.

Since Questran can lower both total and LDL cholesterol levels, a person can decrease his or her risk of developing certain health problems in the future.

Questran Uses in Children

Questran uses in children include the treatment of itching caused by a partial biliary obstruction. Questran has not been approved for use in children with high cholesterol.

Off-Label Questran Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Questran for treating something other than the conditions discussed above. This is called an "off-label" use. Off-label Questran uses include treatment of severe diarrhea in those who have had their gallbladder removed.
