Precautions and Warnings With Previfem

There are many precautions and warnings with Previfem to be aware of before starting the birth control pill. Tell your healthcare provider if you smoke cigarettes, have an upcoming surgery, or are breastfeeding before using Previfem. Since Previfem can worsen certain medical conditions, let your healthcare provider know about all existing conditions you have. Women with heart disease or liver disease should not take Previfem.

Previfem: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Previfem® (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill that is a generic version of Ortho-Cyclen®. You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Previfem if you have:
 
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Smoke cigarettes
  • Have an upcoming surgery
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant (or suspect that you may be pregnant)
  • Are breastfeeding.
     
You should also be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
