Prednisone tablets are most commonly used for their anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing properties. The medication works for most conditions by decreasing inflammation and suppressing an overactive immune system.
Prednisone, which is available by prescription only, comes in tablet form and can be taken just once a day or several times a day (depending on the condition being treated). In general, it is taken for only a short period of time in order to prevent long-term side effects.
While most people tolerate this medicine well, potential side effects include increased sweating, high blood pressure, headaches, and stomach irritation. Prednisone is unlikely to cause serious side effects.
