Prednisone is a prescription drug that is primarily used for its anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing properties. It is used for treating a wide variety of conditions.
There are six different prednisone strengths available:
- Prednisone 1 mg
- Prednisone 2.5 mg
- Prednisone 5 mg
- Prednisone 10 mg
- Prednisone 20 mg
- Prednisone 50 mg.
In order to avoid long-term
prednisone side effects, it is generally recommended that people take this medication for only a short period of time (for less than two weeks). You can also reduce the risk of side effects by taking lower prednisone strengths, less than 20 mg per day.
Prednisone tablets can be taken just once a day or several times a day, depending on the condition being treated. Some people may only take this medicine every other day.
Before making a dosing recommendation, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, including your age and weight, the condition being treated, and the severity of the condition.
