Short-term side effects of prednisone may include mood changes,
insomnia, stomach irritation, and
headaches. Side effects reported with people taking the medication long-term can include weight gain, fluid retention, and bulging eyes.
In most cases, prednisone side effects don't require medical attention. However, you should be sure to notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience severe fluid retention, an allergic reaction, or psychotic reactions, among other serious side effects. You should also tell your healthcare provider if you experience anything that "just does not seem right" during treatment with prednisone.
