Prednisone Dosage for Adults

Prednisone is a prescription medication used to treat a wide variety of conditions. It is part of a group of medications known as glucocorticoids, corticosteroids, or simply "steroids" for short.

The dosage of prednisone for adults will depend on several factors, such as the medical condition being treated, the severity of the condition, the person's age and weight, other existing medical conditions, and other medications being taken. In general, most people take the drug for a short time in order to avoid long-term prednisone side effects. These side effects can usually be avoided by taking the medication for less than two weeks or by taking lower prednisone dosages (less than 20 mg per day). Taking the drug every other day or just in the morning may also help.
