Prednisone 1 mg

Prednisone is part of a group of medications called glucocorticoids that are used to help suppress an overactive immune system and to decrease inflammation.

The drug, which is available by prescription only, comes in tablet form and is available in several strengths, including:

  • Prednisone 1 mg
  • Prednisone 2.5 mg
  • Prednisone 5 mg
  • Prednisone 10 mg
  • Prednisone 20 mg
  • Prednisone 50 mg.
  •
Prednisone tablets can be taken just once a day or several times a day, depending on the condition being treated. Some people take it every other day.

Generally, most people only take the medication for a short period of time in order to avoid long-term prednisone side effects. These side effects can usually be avoided by taking prednisone for less than two weeks or by taking lower dosages (less than 20 mg per day).
