Prednicarbate (
Dermatop®) is approved to treat several skin conditions that cause inflammation, such as:
- Eczema
- Allergic dermatitis
- Seborrhea.
It comes in the form of both an emollient cream and an ointment. The ointment is approved for children age 10 and older; the emollient cream can be used in children as young as 1.
When using either form of prednicarbate, it should be applied sparingly -- more is not better, as this increases the risk of side effects. In addition, do not apply a bandage or other dressing to the area unless your healthcare provider tells you to do so, as this also increases the risk of potentially serious side effects, such as
Cushing's syndrome.
