An Introduction to Your Dosage of Prednicarbate
The dosage of
prednicarbate (
Dermatop®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending mostly on the type and severity of the skin condition you are treating. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Prednicarbate Dosing Guidelines
The standard prednicarbate dose for treating itching or inflammation due to a wide variety of skin conditions (such as
psoriasis, eczema, or
atopic dermatitis) is a thin layer applied to the affected area(s) twice a day. Gently rub the medication into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated area. Wash your hands after applying the medication, unless you are treating your hands.
Your healthcare provider may or may not recommend covering the medication with a dressing. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a recommendation on which type of dressing to use. Using a dressing might help prednicarbate work better, but it also increases the risk of side effects.
If no improvement is seen within two weeks, talk with your healthcare provider about a different treatment approach. Ask your healthcare provider exactly how long you should use prednicarbate. Long-term use (more than a few weeks) increases the risk of serious side effects.
General Information on Using Prednicarbate

- This medication is usually applied to the affected area(s) twice a day.
- Apply prednicarbate sparingly. More is not better. Only a thin film is necessary.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
- If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or prednicarbate dosing in general, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
