Pomalidomide Side Effects

Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop fever, difficulty breathing, or bleeding problems while taking pomalidomide. Research has shown that most people who use this chemotherapy drug will experience some type of reaction, such as nausea, constipation, or weakness. However, because pomalidomide side effects may be significant, seek medical attention if you develop anything that just does not seem right.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Pomalidomide

As with any medicine, pomalidomide (Pomalyst®) can cause side effects. And, like many other cancer treatments, the side effects can be significant. In fact, the majority of people who take this drug will experience at least one side effect during treatment.

Serious Pomalidomide Side Effects

Some side effects of pomalidomide are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Signs of infection, such as:
    • Fever
    • Chills
    • Aches and pains
    • Sore throat or cough
    • Painful urination
  • Any abnormal or unusual bleeding
  • Extreme tiredness or fatigue
  • Numbness, tingling, burning, or pricking sensations in the hands, legs, or feet
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling in an area of one arm or leg and not the other
  • Swelling in your hands, legs, ankles, or feet, or a sudden weight gain
  • Severe or persistent nausea and vomiting
  • Changes in how much or how often you urinate
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
