Pimozide and Fluoxetine

Pimozide (Orap®) is a medicine approved to treat severe motor and verbal tics in people with Tourette syndrome. Although this can be an effective treatment for many people, it may not be safe for use in those who are taking certain medications, including fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®, Selfemra™).
Some of the negative reactions that could occur if fluoxetine is taken with pimozide include serious side effects, such as a life-threatening heart rhythm problem. Also, this drug interaction could increase the level of pimozide in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for dangerous side effects. In general, these products should not be used together.
