Drug Interactions With Pimozide
Combining pimozide with certain antibiotics, amphetamines, and various other products could lead to drug interactions. In some cases, these reactions may lead to potentially life-threatening complications, such as dangerous heart rhythm problems. Do not start treatment with pimozide without first talking to your healthcare provider about all medications, vitamins, and supplements you are taking.
An Overview of Pimozide Interactions
Pimozide (Orap®) can potentially react with a few other medications. Some of the products that may lead to drug interactions with pimozide include but are not limited to:- Amphetamines or amphetamine-like medications, such as:
- Benzphetamine (Didrex®)
- Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine®)
- Dextroamphetamine and amphetamine (Adderall®)
- Dextroamphetamine-amphetamine extended release (Adderall XR®)
- Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse®)
- Methamphetamine (Desoxyn®)
- Phendimetrazine (Bontril®)
- Phentermine (Adipex-P®)
- Certain SSRI antidepressants, such as:
- Citalopram (Celexa®)
- Escitalopram (Lexapro®)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®, Selfemra™)
- Sertraline (Zoloft®)
- CYP 1A2 inhibitor medications, such as:
- Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®, Cipro® XR)
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox®, Luvox® CR)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Lidocaine
- Methoxsalen (8-MOP®, Oxsoralen-Ultra®)
- Mexiletine
- Norfloxacin (Noroxin®)
- Ofloxacin (Floxin®)
- Primaquine
- CYP 2D6 inhibitor medications, such as:
- Bupropion (Aplenzin™, Budeprion SR®, Budeprion XL®, Buproban®, Wellbutrin®, Wellbutrin SR®, Wellbutrin XL®, Zyban®)
- Chlorpromazine
- Cinacalcet (Sensipar®)
- Cocaine
- Delavirdine (Rescriptor®)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac®,
