Phenergan® (promethazine hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine licensed for the treatment of allergies, nausea and vomiting, and motion sickness. It can also be used as a sedative in certain situations. This medication comes in several different forms, including tablets, syrup, rectal suppositories, and an injection. Phenergan tablets are available in three strengths, including:
- Promethazine 12.5 mg
- Promethazine 25 mg
- Promethazine 50 mg.
The syrup, suppository, and tablet form of Phenergan were all once available as brand-name drugs. However, these products are no longer manufactured. Generic forms of these medications are still available.
Phenergan tablets (as well as the other forms) are typically taken one to three times a day. Your healthcare provider will recommend a dosage for your particular situation based on several factors, including the condition being treated, your age and weight (for children), and other existing medical conditions you may have.
