Phenergan
® (
promethazine hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine that is both an antihistamine and a phenothiazine. It is approved for many different uses, including the treatment of nausea and vomiting,
allergies, motion sickness, and various other conditions. The medication comes in liquid, tablet, rectal suppository, and injectable form.
Liquid Phenergan is only available in one strength -- promethazine 6.25 mg per 5 mL syrup. This liquid form is only available as a generic; brand-name versions of this product are no longer being manufactured. Phenergan syrup (as well as the tablets) should be stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture. The medication is typically taken one to three times a day, with or without food.
