Precautions and Warnings With Pegfilgrastim

Make sure you are aware of the precautions and warnings with pegfilgrastim to help ensure safe use of the drug. Before taking pegfilgrastim, let your healthcare provider know if you have sickle cell anemia, any allergies, or myeloid cancers or precancerous conditions. Certain people should not take the medicine, including those who are allergic to E. coli proteins or any components of pegfilgrastim.

 

Pegfilgrastim: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking pegfilgrastim (Neulasta®) if you have:
 
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Myeloid cancers or precancerous conditions, such as:
o Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as chronic myeloid leukemia
o Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), also known as chronic myeloid leukemia
o Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
o Myeloproliferative disease
  • Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.
     
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
     
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
