Precautions and Warnings With Palonosetron

Before taking this drug, it's a good idea to be aware of the precautions and warnings with palonosetron. For example, palonosetron should be used with caution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, you should not take the drug if you are allergic to any components of the drug.

 

Palonosetron: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking palonosetron hydrochloride (Aloxi®) if you:
 
  • Have any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding.
     
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 

Specific Precautions and Warnings With Palonosetron

Warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking palonosetron include the following:
  
  • Palonosetron is considered a pregnancy Category B medication. This means that it is probably safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are not known (see Aloxi and Pregnancy).
     
  • It is not known if palonosetron passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or plan to start, discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to taking the drug (see Aloxi and Breastfeeding).
     

Who Should Not Take Palonosetron?

You should not take palonosetron if you are allergic to palonosetron hydrochloride, Aloxi, or any inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
