Palonosetron Dosing

For preventing nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy, the recommended palonosetron dosage is 0.25 mg when taken by IV or .5 mg when taken in capsule form. When the drug is given to prevent nausea and vomiting due to surgery, the palonosetron dosing is 0.075 mg.

Palonosetron Dosing for Chemotherapy

The recommended dose of palonosetron to prevent nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy is 0.25 mg, given by IV about 30 minutes before starting chemotherapy or one palonosetron 0.5 mg capsule taken by mouth one hour before chemotherapy.
 

Palonosetron Dosing for Surgery

The recommended dose of palonosetron to prevent nausea and vomiting due to surgery is 0.075 mg, given by IV just before the start of anesthesia.
 

General Information on Dosing With Palonosetron

Considerations for people taking palonosetron include the following:
 
  • The medication comes in injectable and capsule form. The IV form is given by IV (intravenously) about 30 minutes before chemotherapy, while the capsule form is taken by mouth one hour before chemotherapy. For surgery, the IV form is given just before anesthesia is started.

  

  • Palonosetron should not be mixed with other medications in an IV.

       
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
