Oxitocin

Available by prescription only, oxytocin (Pitocin®) is a medication approved for stimulating or improving uterine contractions in women. The drug has many approved uses and is given immediately before or right after childbirth. It can help cause uterine contractions to help induce labor or help empty the contents of pregnancy for an elective abortion, among many other uses. Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, and abnormal heart rhythms.
